Our engagement story began on Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008. Beth flew into Baltimore at approximately 5:30 pm. After an evening out to dinner, we returned to my apartment to watch a movie. Before going to sleep that night, I gave Beth a box asking her to embark on a journey with John the following day.
Â
On January 3rd, 2008, Beth and I began our journey traveling the city of Washington D.C. All day, boxes prompted an itinerary including stopping to go ice skating on the mall, visiting the Air and Space Smithsonian, and eating lunch at Buca di Beppo, where we were the ONLY people dining in the entire restaurant!
Â
After lunch we visited the National Zoo to see the hippo there cause hippos are her FAVORITE animals! After the zoo, we returned to the metro to go back home. When we reached the apartment, another box asked Beth to wait outside the apartment while I went inside to set up my apartment.
Â
When Beth entered the apartment, a trail of rose petals led her to a table in the living room that held three dozen red roses, candles, two champagne glasses, a Willow Tree angel, and the final box. The note inside the box simply said, “Beth…”
Â
At this point I took Beth’s hands and told her that she was the one I’ve been looking for her since I was a little boy, that not only was she the love of my life, but my best friend and that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. She answered yes to the proposal and we cried together and embraced.
Â
Following the proposal, we danced to “I Will Be Here” by Steven Curtis Chapman. We also watched her favorite movie, Sleeping Beauty, while snacking on our favorite “picky foodsâ€!
