Cody had been a good friend of my brother’s for years while they worked at the grocery at the end of the street. I had known him for some time when we noticed an obvious, unavoidable attraction to each other and started dating. My parents were absolutely against the match and forbid us to see each other, but we snuck around anyway. Six months later, after forcing them to let us be, we were out driving when Cody kept stopping at every place that ever had sentimental value, telling me why I was so important to him. Finally, we stopped at the grocery where he and my brother used to work. He got the ring out, and said something really beautiful, but I can’t remember the words because I noticed that there was a man in the truck next to ours watching the whole thing! When it came time for a reply, I started laughing because it was so absurd, causing Cody to freak out until I explained to to him. That man had no idea that he witnessed the beginning of our lives!
